Hey all, I’ve got 2018 F150 XLT FX4 SuperCrew. Love the truck. When I bought the truck it, the dealer had already installed a leveling kit which I was cool with. However, ever since I’ve bought it, when going over a rough patch of road or gravel road there’s a knocking feeling in my steering wheel. Feels like metal on metal coming from somewhere in the steering wheel. The harshness of the knocking varies though, some days are different which is odd. I have no idea what brand the leveling kit is or how tall, but I just feel like this is normal. Already had an alignment and everything supposedly checked out fine but was told I might need an “alignment camber kit” by an off-road shop. Anybody have the same issue?

Reason: Edit
Probably a bad u-joint that connects the lower steering shaft to the intermediate steering shaft located in between the firewall and steering gear box. mine did this with no suspension mods. i was under the truck a couple nights checking torque on the trac bar, pitman arm, shocks etc then saw that steering shaft and moved it and it made the same rattle as i was feeling when hitting small bumps at lower speeds.
Could be that the EPAS system was damaged during the install. I believe before you start disassembling the front end on EPAS equipped trucks you have to disconnect all power to the truck to prevent damage to the EPAS unit. If it is damaged it will cause clunking sounds.
I don't have a lift or any aftermarket parts on my truck, but I was experiencing the exact same sensation in the steering wheel that you describe.
The dealer went through a ton of steps to diagnose it, and they ended up replacing an "upper steering shaft" which apparently had some play in it. I could hardly believe it, but this 100% fixed the issue for me.
If you'd like a bit more info, let me know and I can send a picture of the notes they put on the work order.
