I just got got back from a 500 mile trip and the Ex bucked several times. The CPS was replaced with a Ford purple/blue “C” model CPS earlier in the week because of similar problems weeks before.
Pulled the codes odes this morning:
DTC #01 - P0344
DTC #02 - P0603
DTC #03 - P1670
I purchased a spare CPS.....should I change them out? What causes the 1670?
More engine specifics would help. 7.3? Swapping out the CPS might not be a bad idea, but I’d be checking wiring for chafing before I started replacing parts. Sounds like to me you’ve got some communication errors going on and I’d be looking at wiring first. I wouldn’t imagine your PCM or IDM just happened to crap out on you. I believe the 1670 leans towards a bad IDM or at least a bad connection between the two.
Yes.....7.3l.....I just replaced the CPS 2 weeks ago with the Ford purple/blue “C” model....purchased a spare....should I go ahead and put in the new spare CPS?
PCM I believe is up under the dash next to the parking brake. IDM is under the drivers front fender. As in, you gotta take off the fender to get to it. I haven’t looked at the tech folder (excursion and 7.3 forum), but I’d have to believe someone around here has changed one at some point.
As as far as replacing the CPS, if you just replaced it, I don’t see a reason to replace it again just for the sake of replacing it.
Well, yes, but if it were me I’d check all the wiring first being that it was just replaced. Could very well be a bad sensor, but given your other problems, wiring would be my first check IMHO.
