Dyno numbers

Spent the morning at Northwest Custom Diesel in Tacoma trying out there new dyno. Not sure what others are seeing for hp numbers but I was a little shocked at how low my hp numbers were. Just for a refernce I was running a old act canned performance tune (old livewire) My truck is pretty close to stock other then the normal upgrades: studs, delete, exhaust, blue spring. Looking at possible getting a kc DIY turbo kit I am shooting for 400hp or better. Pretty much curious to hear what others have been seeing Hp wise at the wheels with similar setups.

Todays dyno run

If on the average at the wheel readings are 20% less than at the flywheel reading or stated specs, you are +/- 65 hp and 201 torque above stock.
These trucks probably lose more than 20% to the wheels.

That's not at all horrible for RWHP on a basically stock truck. You should be able to squeeze 400 RWHP out of it with a good tune. I think we got 414 RWHP out of the Granny truck when it was totally stock and it's an 04.

Those numbers aren't bad at all!

With a good tune and more air, you should be able to put down 400HP easily.

Running my custom exhaust setup, an intake, Gearhead's SRL-X aka SRL ++, and an earlier FICM calibration, I put down 411hp and 756 tq. At the time I didn't know my heads were lifting due to the tech not sending them off to get machined and him not torquing them down properly. Bottom line, I could've put down more with healthy, well torqued heads. So it's entirely possible with a good tune and hardware setup.

Todays dyno run
I just had mine on the dyno this weekend. Lot of guys complain that it's not a load dyno, numbers are really low, etc, etc. I don't know about all of that I just know what my numbers were. I have a Powermax turbo, stock injectors, Odawg SR3 ported intake, egr delete, along with the head studs, etc and the Atlas 40FICM tune with Innovative Xtreme X PCM tune. It put down 407hp and 753torque. For what it's worth, it put down more than a tuned 6.7 powerstroke and a 6.0 with 175/30 injectors and a stage 2 turbo only put down 433hp that same day on the same dyno. When you consider adjusting the 15%-20% at the crank, putting me at roughly 488hp and 900torque at the crank, that's quite a gain over the stock numbers so it's probably realistic. I don't know how guys are claiming over 450rwhp with stock injectors. Charlie Fish told me I wouldn't gain any power with his Stage 2 turbo over my Powermax with stock injectors, so I think I'm at about the max you can run a stock injector truck short of nitrous or meth. The guy running the dyno said my truck was one of the top 2 or 3 6.0's he's run, and was impressed saying it felt like it had a lot more in it and just kept pulling hard. I credit that to the intake. I could feel a definite difference after having the ported intake installed, especially at higher speed and rpms.

Thanks for all the input I will see what I hit next time. I do have a custom toon that we will be working on next time I run the truck on the dyno so the tuner can adjust as needed in real time. One concern I had was my icp kept dropping to around 2500 psi under full load. I am going to change my hpop next week since it is still under warranty.

Depending on who's tune you're running and how hot the tune is, that's supposed to happen.

The PCM has limits built into it that limit power to 3500 rpm and within certain fueling parameters. One way to "make" the truck dump the fuel desired, is to lie to the ICP sensor. When you do this, you get more fuel but if you watch the ICP VOLTAGE you'll see that it's not dropping as much as you think it is.

Thought i would throw this picture up for the fun of it. Just got home from finishing the plumbing for a duel Hpop setup. And before anybody asks this is a good friend of mines truck that owns one of the local diesel performance shops I just happen to do hydraulics for a living. This is a prototype will know on Saturday how well it works once its survives the dyno run.
