Angry 88 Ignition Problem???????????

Well I need a little help on this one. It's an 88 bronco II 2.9l fuel inj. I've got a great spark, comp, and plenty of fuel but all it will do is crank and crank. I had it running,( not very well ) She ran out of fuel while we were letting run and she's been dead ever since. if you have any suggestions I'm all ears

Do you have fuel pressure at the rails? If not the fuel relay could be shot or the fusible link might have blown. I have seen a lot of the 2.9 have excessive corrosion arount the relays wires which causes the fusible link to blow. When this happens you will not get any fuel pressure at all.
When you first turn the key on do you hear the fuel pump run for a second or two?

Yes I am getting fuel, there is a valve that resembles a tire valve, I had a friend crank it while I pressed the valve it shot a stream of gas that splashed on the hood

n
ow that is something else, has any of you heard of a distributor that doesn't need timed. anyway there is a mark on the block and the dist. that you need a mirror to see. with the the mark lined up my timing is as far as I can tell is correct. We pulled #1 plug , took it to tdc, and cheked rotor everything checked out

Are the injectors firing. A stethoscope can help, but you should be able to hear the injectors "clicking" as they open and close. A "noid" light would allow you to check for an electrical signal to the injectors.

a noid light is a small light that plugs into the fuel injector harness and will light up when the electrical signal is sent to that injector. it is a very easy way to quickly diagnose and/or eliminate the fuel imjectors in a hard start/no start condition

good luck

You should also be able to "feel" them clicking but a noid light if you have one is better. It's a small, low voltage light that you can plug into your injector plug to see if the injector is recieving the signal from the comp.

I think you can get the lights at most parts stores. Tehy usually sell a universal one that isn't real expensive.

Ok getting fuel to the injectors and electrical current , someone mentioned today about crankshaft positioning sensor, would that cause these symptoms.

Yes crank sensor would do that. What do you mean by electrical current? Did you use a noid?

turned out to be the sensor. Thank you to everyone that helped, to step man yes to the noid, thats what got me to looking at the sensor that noid is the best ten dollars I've spent yet. I've found out the hard way to really check your sensors. I've decided to change all of them this weekend. Again thanks I would have spent a lot more money if I had'nt used this forum
