Hi Guys,
I'm planning on upgrading the mirrors on my truck to the 08-16 style. I don't really see any recent posts about brands though. The 1AAuto ones are nice, but there are ones much cheaper on Amazon. Are the 1AAuto ones still a great deal superior? Want to get a good quality, but not if the cheaper ones are just as good.
Also, my truck does not have turn signals in the mirrors. If I ordered some that did, is the wiring already in the harness for that on an 03? Hoping it might be plug and play
My truck came with tow mirrors but they did not have heat, turn, or marker lights. It also did not have the wiring for that and I have to do it myself (still haven't done it several years later).
I have the '03-'07 style tow mirrors from 1A Auto and have been very happy with them. Good product, OEM match, and perfect fit.
Here's a recent thread on what you're looking for:
Hate the mirrors in my '01 SD. Don't like how they are rounded at the top, I feel like they cut off part of what I need to see. I also plan on upgrading. There are some YouTube videos of guys who have done it. A pick and pull will be a good bet for cheap mirrors. You'll have to run your own wiring for heat/lights. At least my '01 does not have any wiring going out to the mirrors for those options, but that's not to hard.
I tried a set of foreign made 08 style mirrors. The passenger side looked like a funhouse mirror. The good thing was the connector plugged right into my 2004. Plus they refunded all of my money. Ended up with a sweet deal on a set of factory take offs. Had to rewire the connectors to work on a 2004 (the wire colors are the same on the mirror side of things). Also had to change the left/right wires inside the mirrors themselves. There are writeups on here that explain both procedures. I also did the Greco Mod while I had everything apart.
The OEM ones are not cheap, but they are the gold standard.
I can say the 1Aauto ones are excellent and plug right in. No wire splicing needed. I can't comment on any others, but having got some crap mirrors from Amazon for my Jeep, I would stick with known quality.
Definitely recommend the 1AAuto set. They are great folks to work with and ship promptly. Prices are very reasonable too. Don't go for the cheaper mirrors on ebay/amazon, as most who have tried them report that the mirrors have the "funhouse" mirror effect as jarhead has stated. I looked at those cheaper mirrors for quite a while and read tons of reviews advising not to purchase them...went with 1AAuto ones and they were great! Had them on my 04 XL and had to splice in wires for the heat and turn signals, but that was easy enough. Truck didn't have wiring for the mirrors, but it was no problem to find the right wires and splice in.
