I have a 1950 F-1 that is almost completely original and I just wanted to know more about it when I bought it it came with an extra fender that had a spare tire dent and looks too be the original fender for the truck I’d just like to know the options it came with
The vehicle coding for this vintage of trucks doesn't carry much build info. The 98RC on your plate tells us that it is a 1949 or 1950 model with a V8 engine. The sequence number 506300 would indicate that it is a 50 as the break between the years has been tracked to the 300000 range. This matters as the coding and sequence numbering from 49 was carried over to 50.
If there are any stamped or painted letters / numbers on the upper engine bay firewall, other build info ( location and paint color, for instance) can be confirmed. This thread will be of interest : https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...n-cut-off.html
From the pics, it appears that you have the big back window (a mid-50 change) and the box side walls are straight (another running change in 50). The seat appears to have been recovered and the hood trim isn't installed properly. The box doesn't seem right - could just be the pics. If you could share pics of the sides and tailgate, a better assessment is possible.
The only V8 available was the 239 version. If your engine is original, that's what should be under the hood. You should have the column shift lever if the tranny is the standard 3 speed. Clearly, the wheels aren't stock and some rubber seam welting is missing between the cab and front fender as is hood nose trim. Nothing unexpected for a survivor.
my plan was a street rod / cruiser it’s got a 4 speed non-synchro transmission
I’m hoping to keep the flathead I believe there is a stamp on the firewall the motor is a 8BA wit a 2barrel carb the trim has Seen better days this truck run and starts better than any new car it’s amazing
You have a late 1950 (one of the very latest I have records for), typical 8BA 239 flathead V8. Looks to me like a small back window, has the late series box with smooth sides. The long hood trim pieces are just upside down - or reversed top/bottom. The wiper button is something aftermarket - original were just black plastic/bakelite type material.
As far as starting and running, my 48 would start in -25 F weather when everything else struggled and I used it as a daily driver for 10 years. It's currently waiting on an engine rebuild.
True, but in addition to the serial number on the firewall tag, there's typically the assembly plant code next to it, which is helpful. Having the firewall stampings would be a big bonus.
I have seen the stamp on the firewall but it was covered in surface rust but I won’t be able to look for it because I’m working on another project and I don’t have the room at the moment but this is my other project 1984 cj7 with a dodge 3/4 ton drivetrain on international scout axles 360ci 727 and an np205
Hey Matt,
Welcome aboard. We've also got a '50 F1 ... lot's of fun!
We also had a blue jeep - under powered 2002 4 cylinder but my son had a
blast with it. Stay safe over there! So.... How does a 20 year old get (2)
old projects? I barely had beer money at (20) .
Tell us the story of how you came about owning the 1950.
The Jeep is my dads but it was a family project the truck one of my dads buddies had it and he jus never got around to doing anything with it and I’ve wanted ever since I’ve seen it and this is going back 12 years and finally one day he decided he wanted to get rid of it so I bought it’s pretty much original
