My bronco was starting hard, so i bought a new OE solenoid and accel super stock coil. Put the solenoid in, no change, but it still started. Took the old coil off and then realized that the new one would not fit the original connector. Instead of taking it back and finding one that would fit, I cut the wires out, put different connectors on, and put them on the new coil. Now I got nothing when I turn the key. I tried every combo with the wires and the best I get is a slight ummph, but nothing close to starting. Also, the lead from the distributor fits a little odd. What wires go to which terminal on the coil? and can I buy a different distributor to coil wire?
Well, the coil wire goes from coil to center plug on the distributer cap. I think the small wire from distributer goes to the pos. side of coil, not sure though.
good luck bro.
There is one small red wire coming from a part benaeth the right side of the air filter housing. It could be the throttle actuator.(I am not sure what that is, but it is in the wiring diagram). there is also one that goes to a little pug thingy on the coil harness and ends there, and one that goes to the wiring coming from the ignition module. There is also a green wire that i believe was never connected to anything. the wirng diagram shows threee wires, but the colors have to be wrong, or the wires have been replaced.
Now when i turn the key I get a loud ummph from the solenoid area. It is not a click like when the solenoid goes bad. Has anyone else put an aftermarket coil on an '81 with 351? If the coil is wired wrong would this happen? or did something else fall apart in the process. Please help, I have to drive to work tomorrow.
well, I've replaced everything else, time to go for the starter. If that doesn't fix it, at least I will have a new starter. Are there any tricks to the '81 that aren't in the Chiltons? I looked at it and it does not look to bad, but then again, nothing ever does...
