Squishy brakes

everyone helped me with my last problem so I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction with my squishy brakes. We did a disk convertion in the front with new lines and good calipers. Rear drums are new and adjusted. Probably went through a gallon of brake fluid bleeding it and still squishy. Any ideas?

Did you bench bleed the master cylinder? If not that can cause it.

Here's a Wikihow on it.

Incidentally, that article mentions how a mechanic would use a vacuum bleeder. Those or a pressure pot can sure help.

I like my pressure pot but they are not cheap. You might be able to rent one or the other, too.

What differential/proportioning valve did you use? The stock Ford ones have a bleeder valve on them that must be pulled out or pushed in, in order to get fluid to flow to the front brakes. You will still get fluid but you may never get all the air out unless that metering valve is held open.

Check all fitting connections for any fluid leaks.

So I did bench bleed the master but didn’t realize I had to mess with the proportioning valve. The convertion used 78 f100 parts. I’ll try that. How can I tell if I have a bad valve?

Here is a page from the chassis manual, "sort of", it's hard to scan as this thing it is about as thick as a New York phone book. Forget that bleeder tool, they ain't none to be had. You will have to make your own or get someone to lay under there and hold that pin out or push it in depending on which system you used.

Check out the rod length on the power booster. It might not be long enough to go all the way into the master cylinder. Especially if your power booster is aftermarket. That was my issue after doing disc/drum total replacement from drum/drum. I did all new to include lines, calipers rotors, etc.
