I just bought a 78 f150 (2wd) and am having problems diagnosing the brake problem I am having.
I have next to no pressure for the 1st half of the pedal travel then the front brakes grab very quickly and there is lots of pressure on the pedal. The brakes operate much better in reverse. The previous owner had installed a new power booster, all pads, shoes, springs, rotors and drums are new. Where should I look next. I was wondering if it could be the master cylinder,
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance Greg.
Try bleeding the mater cylinder. Will need a friend. Disconnect the two lines coming of your MC. Plug them with your fingers. Have friend press on brake with consistent pressure. When he does that, let up a little bit with your fingers so that fluid and hopefully any trapped air come out. repeat until only solid jets of fluid are coming out. Keep some DOT 3 nearby incase you have to add some during the process. Then bleed the rest of your brakes at the caliper. If your MC isn't putting out consistent pressure or little to no pressure at those holes, it is time to get a new MC.
