Hello, all. First post, so if it has been covered elsewhere, I apologize in advance. I have a 2003 F250 King Ranch with the 6.0 diesel. It has 380000 miles, and ran like a top until I was at cruising speed on my way home from work.
The RPMs just started surging, and wouldn't stop until I got it home. I also had light smoke out of the tailpipe, and loss of power. I replaced the ICP and the plug. No fix. I then took out the turbo and cleaned the vanes and put that back together. I'm planning on replacing the cam and crank sensors this Friday, because I got a p0214 and a p0217 code. I will also check the wiring harness when I install the sensors. Is there anything else I should be looking for? Thanks.
Ok, replaced the cam sensor tonight, now it won't start. I checked the wiring harness, and it looks to be in excellent condition. The tach also doesn't move while cranking. Should I replace the crank sensor next and see what happens?
Monitor the EOT during the surging epesodes. My 6.0 has had -17 thru 60 deg F reading while surging. The engine was actually at operating temp. The PCM causes more fuel to be injected when temps are under 60 deg. This will cause the engine to run bad and surge.
