The Dreaded EGR
In need of assistance. I have a early 04 250 6.0 4x4 with 140000. CEL on with 3 egr codes. Cant remember them exactly. Replaced egr. Reset computer. Drove the truck for about 20 miles CEL came back on. Same 3 codes. Chances of have a faulty EGR? Possible but not likely I would assume. Any other areas I should be looking? Thanks in advance.

I had the EGR replaced in a 6.0L three times.. Twice they had to replace the EGR and cooler.
The BIG BIG Dreaded EGR...
The Diesel tech told me the EGR was getting carbon build up and fouling out the EGR.
He recommended on the 6.0L to step on the floor once/month and blow out carbon build-up.
I did that and never had an EGR problem again..

Well I romped on it on the way to work. About 10 miles. CEL still on. Hopped in to come home and shazam, light is off. I'll keep and eye on it the next few days. Thanks for the fix. Who would of thunk it.

Thanks for the info. I've ordered a scanner and will clear codes so that I can see exactly what's happening at time of fault.

Is it an aftermarket EGR? We got stuck in Albuquerque with our 6.0L after having a delete done. We had Bulletproof EGR and oil coolers put in. The light kept coming back on although the truck ran good. We were told by another Ford dealer that the aftermarkets were setting it off and we would have to replace with Ford products. We stared at that light until we sold the truck, which ran great until we sold it.
