I am going with a performer intake and a 600 edelbrock carb
I think i might end up with an x303 cam and save some money on link bar lifters
Don't waste your money on the Performer. Get the RPM or a Stealth. They'll work the same on the bottomend but give it room to breathe above 5 grand. If you're gonna do a Performer might as well leave the stock 2 bbl intake on it and top it with a 500 cfm Holley.
So my machinist has recommended to go with link bar lifters to avoid stock lifters coming out of their bores due to excessive lift. I plan on going with a cam with .544 lift. I dont want to needlessly spend 500 bucks on link bar lifters when stock lifters will do the trick. Are there any advantages to go with a link bar setup?

I'm running O.E type hydraulic roller lifters on a Z303 in my 331. The lobe lift isn't .544 on your cam. Divide that by the rocker ratio to get the lobe lift. My Lifters are Comp cams units if I recall. The stock rollers have a somewhat less tolerance to float than these do. These are good to 7 grand. The lobe lift on the Z cam is .343 The O.E rollers are pretty long, they're nowhere near coming out of their bores with this lift.
Howards Linkbar lifters
Comp cams 35-514-8
7/16 head studs
Crane 1.6 Roller Rockers
AFR 185 58cc heads
ARP head bolts
Machinist called and said that the crank was in excellent shape and the cylinders all checked out only needed a .010 over. Looking forward to getting started on this build.

Are pistons even available in that size? Or is the engine currently at ,030" and you are going to .040"?
Based on the pictures he posted when he started this, it's std bore now. Looking at the pics, I's just have it ball honed and reuse the O.E pistons and new iron rings. I've done a few like this now and no problems with it.

I said the same thing to the machinist but he said that it was too close to call and didn't feel comfortable leaving it. For me I am glad that he went the extra mile and now the accountability is on him.
