My 78 year old Dad, on a trip across country with his F350 6.7 powerstroke, had the intercooler pipe blow off. Had his truck towed into Addicted Diesel in Rock Springs WY to get a new pipe installed, over $400 later they sent him down the road with the new pipe. He only got a little over 200 miles and it blew off again. He called them numerous times with no answer, I called numerous times with no answer. After over an hour of calling I finally got ahold of someone there and was told that it was too bad it broke again, they would not do anything to help my dad out, were not willing to drive 3 hours out to where he sat stranded on the side of the road. So my 78 year old dad has to try and fix it himself, with all the 18 wheelers blowing past him on the busy interstate. I'm 1500 miles away, so I am not able to do much good to him other than trying to help him figure out how to get it back together by phone, but with an unreliable cell phone connection. So, as far as I'm concerned, THESE GUYS SUCK!!!
That's a shame, sorry to hear that about your dad. Two things; first, as much as I hate knowing they will charge me too much, I prefer to have repairs done at a Ford dealership when I'm travelling. Second, early one weekend morning (like 1 am) leaving Colorado towing my 5er the 6.0 blew the intercooler hose, it had a broken clamp. I googled roadside diesel repair and fould a mechanic willing to come help me. I had to bribe him with a $300 bonus, but about 45 minutes later he was there and 30 minutes after that I was rolling. That repair never failed.

Good luck to you and your dad.
I had suggested to my dad the local rock springs ford dealer, but the wrecker driver that came to tow him in assured him that addicted was the best place to get it fixed.
Now, my dad said they seemed like good guys and only charged him a reduced amount of hours than the book called for, which was good. But, any shop owner with a conscience, would have hopped in his truck and drove 3 hours down the road to help his customer, especially a 78 year old customer, out of a jamb that they probably created by not installing the new tube properly.
My Dad got the tube back on, but only got a little further down the road and it blew off again, he's now in Cheyenne, taking it to the local dealer now.
Well, hopefully Dad has his feet in the pool at the local Hollidy Inn while enjoying a tall cool drink with an umbrella in it.
No, I imagine he's found the local walmart and will park there until the part comes in for his truck. They ordered it overnight but were unsure if the order was early enough to make the truck tonight.
I just went through this nonsense on my 6.0. I replaced the turbo and the hot side intercooler boots (Mishimoto) and they kept blowing off. Luckily it first blew when I test drive the truck after making the repair, so I made sure I had the necessary tools with me in the truck. After about 15 breakdowns and stranded in Canada 1,500 miles from home, I bought some Gorilla Glue and glued the faulty boot to the intercooler pipe. It held until I got back home and replaced the boot and pipe with Ford parts.

check with your insurance and see if you have roadside assistance or AAA and get it towed to a ford Deslership.
Things happen but I would ask anyone here. How many of your local repair shops will drive 3 hours to check a repair? I don't know of any around here. They very well may have done shoddy work providing there isn't some other underlying problem that caused this. Did they offer to repair it if he returned it to them?
About towing the stranded vehicle to the "nearest ford dealership ".
Two years ago I was towing my 5er in Maggie Valley, NC and lost A/C compressor on a hot summer day ( August) . I was thinking that a ford dealership would " do it right " and provide ford warranty, even if i pay a bit more , . I took it to Taylor Ford at nearby town Waynesville,NC. .I also thought that a ford dealership would only use motocraft parts . To make it short Taylor ford used an A/C compressor from Auto Zone which lasted less than a year . Also this ford dealer only provided a "dealership warranty" not valid at another ford dealer . Beware .

Probably apples to oranges but I bought my 04 SD last November with the intention of making a few long trips hauling my 20 foot trailer so I purchased an aftermarket warranty through the dealer. During my second trip my exhaust manifold developed a leak and my muffler did as well.
The warranty covered the manifold repair but not the muffler and tail pipe. I told the dealer to skip the muffler as I wanted to put a stainless cat back system on and would be doing it myself. They goofed and put a new muffler and tail pipe on and used NAPA parts. Fortunately I had called to check on their progress and told them again not to do the muffler but they did it any way. I wasn't charged for it though. I suspect they had already cut off the original muffler and tail pipe just before I called. I wasn't surprised they used a muffler and tail pipe from NAPA.
This is the condensed version, some unimportant details were left out.
I hope the OP's father is safe and sound and is able to get back on the road soon.
I've never heard of a garage that would actually do anything like this then come pick you up.
A AAA membership typically pays for itself and more every year, free tows up to 200 miles depending which plan you get. Everyone who drives a ****ty old truck, or even a ****ty new truck, should have this IMO. Very worth it.
