I was reading through a thread yesterday regarding the best 50 dollar mods and now I cant find it even with a search. So I'm compiling a list for an Amazon Run here is what Im looking for thus far:
FORSCAN Adapter (I would like a hard wire one I'm not interested in the Bluetooth adapter and cant find the 1 that was recommended)
Drivers rear seat latch release, I still cant figure out how to get into mine with my huge mittens so maybe this thing will work for me.
Also looking for the paintable mirror caps the chrome caps for me are just a little too much and at night the reflection from on coming traffic is a little annoying even with tinted windows. (I will source these locally)
Stubby radio antenna, most times I listen to satellite radio so reception isn't a huge issue for me.
Thanks for the help, if someone smarter than me can link the thread that would be great as I didn't get to read it all either.
Hello Sarge261,
I did the rear seat release from Builtright Industries---about $35 on ebay. To access the little latch, fold the seat bottom up and that will allow the top seatback to move forward. Then contort your face against the back glass and you should be able to see the latch. It was a pain to access so once I unlatched it, I left it down until my Builtright latch arrived. When you unlatch it pull out a little on it then pull the latch to lower the seat down. Pay attention to the position when it releases because you will need to line it up the same way to relatch until you get the new latch on. The video Builtright has up is very helpful. Took 45 seconds to install. I have not used any of the other items you are looking for but the latch is well worth it. Good luck.
Yep, that is a nice latch. I had to use an end wrench as shown in the video to get mine unlatched.
Mirror Cover - HC3Z-17D743-BAPTM and HC3Z-17D742-BAPTM
FORscan - this adapter works well for me: bbfly-BF32302 USB modified FTDI $26
Edit: This is the one I wanted due to higher ratings but was out of stock at the time: OHP Ford ELMconfig USB device 500kbit/s ELM327 compatible

Reason: additional info
When I read the title I thought it meant someone was going to put together a list (like a gift registry) on amazon of all the mod stuff... as a compendium to the $50 mod list. If someone were to do that, which would be cool for all of us, they might even get a gift!
The Forscan wired adapter that is recommended is OHP Ford ELMconfig USB Device. Sold be OHP, fulfilled by Amazon, $29.99. It's the one I use and it works perfectly. I've used it with 2 different laptops.

I got this one too. Used it once. So far works great. Has a switch for HS/MS CAN. Easy to use. My windows 8 found and installed the driver for it automatically. Their driver installation guide is very confusing if you have to install the driver manually.

I compiled a wish list of items from this thread...and the "best mods around $50". Hopefully this helps you spend your money more quickly.
Few caveats...
I tried to remove any "affiliate links" so that these are clean links to the products. No reason for someone to profit off the list.
I left off all the different LED fog lights, grill lights, bumper lights, etc since that is probably worth a list by itself
For simplicity, I used amazon and Tasca links whenever possible....but obviously many (if not all) of this stuff can be found at ebay, manufacturer websites, etc. Also. we have some very loyal and friendly site sponsors that often sell this stuff at great prices. Check them out too.
Some of these items are so popular with the Ford-Trucks forum that we get discounts (e.g. TufSkinz) so always check that out first.
