I've just torn out all of the bed wood on my '53, and I noticed that the previous owner really didn't have the bed bolted down that well. Whoever installed the bed wood didn't do a fantastic job, so I'm replacing it, and attaching the bed to the frame as it was meant to be.
I moved the bed crossmembers back into place and squared things up a bit, aligning it with the holes in the frame. Everything looks pretty good but I did notice that I have a bigger gap at the front of the bed / back of the cab then I did before. Right now it measures 2¼" from the back of the cab to the leading edge of the forward stake pocket on the driver's side. I didn't measure from the forward top rail of the bed to the cab, because that piece has a bit of a bow in it.
Anyway, it doesn't look bad this way (and the rear wheel is much more centered in the wheel well) but I'm wondering if there is an "acceptable" measurement here. I've looked at a lot of pictures online, and when I see a side view of a '53-'55 there is a pretty good gap between the cab and bed, enough to see daylight. My truck was not like that before.
