'66 240 "Fleet" carberator?

I am cruising for information for my dad's 1966 Ford F100. I don't know a huge amount about old Fords (it's hard enough keeping my vintage VW's running) But I love this truck. My dad bought this truck from the 1st owners in 1971 and has kept it looking awesome since then. (I'll post pics when I get them) From what I understand this particular vehicle is a fleet truck. (I'll post the VIN when I get home if that helps) I've been told that it came with a worse carberator than the normal one. Anyway, my dad recently rebuilt the carb and now it has an aweful flat spot in the acceleration. He has kept everything completely stock on this truck, but would like it to be an easy driver. What I'm trying to figure out is what options there are to make this straight 6 3 on-the-tree as easy to drive as possible. Are there popular carb replacements? What about that funny vacuum-only distributor advance? Power steering? Auto trans? Thanks for any info

You need to look at the 6 cylinder forum for info on the distributor, there is a thread about that very dist. Should be able to find out about the carb upgrades there too. There are several threads in this forum on the p/s swap- just use the search function. I guess I didn't answer much, but hopefully pointed in the right direction.

Thank you for the replies. I beleive this is the vacuum-only dizzy. It doesn't have a centrifugal advance. I tried to take some pics of the dizzy and carb, but they suck. Instead, I did get a shot of an air filter solution for you. My dad got sick of the oil bath years ago and made this. Pretty much any air filter will work in the truck now. Very ingenious. Anyway, here's some links to the pics. They are just hosted off my own internet connection, so it might be a little slow. http://cobyhoff.dyns.net/ford/enginebay.jpg

Thanks for all the advice. My dad does have all the manuals he could find. ie. chilton, haynes. I don't know if there is an official shop manual for this truck like there is for my VW.

Does anyone have any quick advice on float bowl level? The manual was very cryptic about what level it should actually be at.

Thanks,
Jacob

Well, I like your dad. Very functional. I am still hoping for something a little more "official" but you're right. That setup looks like it'll take any aircleaner element on the face of the earth!

Now, I could see a little of your carb in the pictures. Doesn't look like my 1101 very much at all. Could be wrong though. You would do well to post some pics over at fordsix

There are copies of the original ford shop manuals available. CD rom seems to be about $25 on eBay, The hardcopy runs about $70 -- two large volumes. Covers f-100 all up to f-1300 etc. A lot of irrelevant information. But the thing was written for a Ford mechanic. Meaning, its made to fix/test/mantain that year vehicle. Useful.

later.....

Perhaps it is yours?
