After reading a mind numbing number of posts describing and comparing Bilstein vs Fox vs Rancho 9000's, I decided on the Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks for my Super Duty. Then I met a fellow who had just installed a set of Rancho 5000X's on his Super Duty, and was very pleased with their performance. After talking with the folks at Rancho about the 5000X's, I was told the X series was a redesign of previous 5000 series shock and their valving was comparable to a 9000 set between 4 and 6. Anyway, I just installed a set on my Super Duty and I'm very happy with the ride improvement over the stock shock.

Thanks for the review of the shocks. I’d be interested to hear how they last. The biggest downside I’ve heard to the Ranchos is that they don’t last long.

Considering they have a lifetime warranty, I wouldn't put too much stock in that. I had a set of 9000's for three years with no problems, then traded the truck.
Yeah, I can attest to that. I'm about to replace my set only got +200K miles and 18 years out of them, darn it.
It kind of sucks that you don't get the opportunity to get under your truck, remove all the shocks, spend a day rebuilding them and then more time to put them back on. I really feel for you.

Yeah, and there are some who claim theirs lasted no more than three months. I guess a lot has to do with what you subject them to and what you'd call a failure. I've personally never seen a shock that really dampened well after 100k miles, and I wouldn't expect it to. Other people might call a failure when the oil blows out.
They really are a great shock at a solid price point

Does Rancho make the 5000X for the rear of the 2017+ Super Duty yet? With the different bushing or is it the same part number as the 2011-2016 Super Duty?
