Hood latch relocation?
Is there a kit or something for a hood latch relocation? I am thinking about putting an aftermarket grill on it where you won’t be able to reach in the grill to unlock it. Has anyone done this before? Should I plan on custom fabricating sometime myself to get around that?
I have a 1988 F-150
Thanks for the help.

You can cut the handle off, rotate it up to sit level with the latch, then weld it up. Your hood will then open like most vehicles.

I have 4x4driver's modified example that needs a tack weld lost in my shop.
When I find it, I'll try & post a pic so you can see what he describes.

Look at a Still grill. They give you a handle to relocate the handle

Mine has a chromed square tube grill...I'm going to weld a simple extension on the secondary latch so my finger can find that latch a little easier.

Years ago I bought a billet grill from Summit and it came with a piece of metal that bolted to the stock hood safety latch and extended it to where you can reach it. Don't know if it is sold as a stand alone piece but wouldn't be hard to duplicate it.
I could snap a pic of it if you want to see.

So, if you want to put the safety catch release just under the lip of the hood like most vehicles...
You can make a single cut, drill one, two holes (or none) weld/attach as shown:
For example, you build your own grill with expanded metal or you buy a used Stull grill that doesn't come with the custom latch.

up two inches, out two inches and a handle welded on. Still retain the factory orientation and have the new piece removable for future options
Sorry, but yes you will need to "modify" the original engineering, but you will be okay ;-)
