My '03 F-350 has some of that steering wander you describe, or at least something very similar.
When slowing to stop (light braking), it does pull left or right a bit, but then at the moment I come to a stop, it ends up perfectly straight and centered. And it wants to wander a bit when accelerating and at cruising speed.
BDS front leveling kit, and commercial tires on 19.5" rims.
I thought I had a bad alignment at first, but can't blame the shop since it ends up just right at full stop. I do need front sway bar links, but I think what I have is due to the lift and rolling stock.
If you want to confirm it’s the tires put your other tires back on and go for a drive your truck should drive like it did before. Crappy roads and wider tires can cause this
Soooooo I got home and pulled the wheels. Drivers tire had scrapes all over the stick weights, passenger front I only had the adhesive left LOL Apparently the 1/2oz weight is too thick and caught my front calipers, called 4wheelonline and I was told to get them balanced, email the bill and I would get reimbursed. Hopefully that fixes the problem because right now with my stock wheels and 285 tires the truck is smooth as silk again. No wondering or shakes at highway speeds
I had a feeling that putting the old tires on would smooth things out. But I didn't for see the weight issue, I had that happen on my bronco once but it didn't rip them off it just made a really loud scraping sound every time the tire rotated scared the crap out of me for a second though till I figured out what it was. Hopefully the rebalance straightens this out. The vibration you mentioned made me think you might need the constant velocity joint on the rear driveshaft that some super cabs need.
I have to go around 5 to pick the tires up so I'll see tonight what happens. And I had the entire rear driveshaft rebuilt less than three years ago for an issue that wasn't related but I like throwing money away apparently
I will say if it doesnt go away I'm returning the wheels and tires and buying these super mint 2016 super duty 18's and buying hub centric spacers and throwing 35's on them LOL
So picked my tires up last night, originally everyone that was mounted and balanced by 4wheelonline had under 3oz ot weights. Shop said they spun them before removing and their machine said all four were out of spec. So I now have between 4 1/2 and 5 1/4 oz's and from what I can tell after my short drive the truck is near perfect now. I still have a tiny bit of left right in the steering wheel when I first start or stop but I'm thinking it's just the 12.50 wide big mud terrain tires following the road swells and contours. My straight line now with 46psi in all four tires is almost perfect I have a little wonder but again I believe it's the big tires following all these crappy roads. I only have a very mild bump bump bump sensation around 50mph that goes away and another one somewhere around 68 to 70mph that goes away below and above this speed. Again could be the roadways or the fact my skyjacker shocks are three years old and now are too short for the 4" lift even though they are suppose to be for my lift height...so now I'm on the search for new shocks
