Hood Scoop
I was wondering if anyone knew if someone makes these, or one that is very close to this design.
I tried to talk myself out of one, but after seeing the 57 in street rod builder (current issue), I realise that it is the look to finish off my truck.
Any help with options would be appreciated.
Thanks to all
Bulldog
I've been there too.... "I'll just be a minute, rest of the truck's around here in pieces, (an hour later) where's the **** hood!!!??".....gotta remember that people been hot roddin' these trucks for over 30 years, and plenty of scroungers have been over the same turf you're workin' now.
The closest thing I've come up with is the plain jane '58 hood scoop as in this photo:
Close but no cigar...
Still lookin' too.

Over time, I've seen a lot of hood scoops on e-bay that appear to be extremely close in appearance to them. I don't how close they are dimensionally though.
They are always listed as "Pontiac Super Duty" hood scoops, and are supposedly used for racing (just about every one I've seen listed says that).
Most of the ones that I've seen have a chrome grille insert on the front instead of painted.
There's one listed now if you want to see for yourself. It is listed as item number 2432835823.
That would be most kind of you!
Please let me know when one other than the first spoken for is found.
Thank'ee

Would a 55-57 T-bird scoop look close? I keep hearing about this 57 in street rod builder, anybody got pics? I'm always on the look out for one of those hoods, I'll let you know if I come across one. -4speed
Kenny I will check out the auction, thank you.
If I get one I will let everyone know, but if someone finds one please let me know.
Once again thanks alot. Hopefully I will get one soon.

I have checked the information and it is accurate. Here is the text incase the website does not come up.
"The original Super Duty 421 Lemans Tempests were Pontiac factory-built drag race-only coupes and station wagons, designed to combat other factory lightweights that had a weight advantage over the big Super Duty Catalinas. One "mule" car was built as a Tempest coupe in Silvermist Metallic and Blue interior, which was the testbed for the series. Eventually six Lemans-badged coupes were built, along with six Tempest station wagons in Cameo White with blue interiors. All sported deceiving 326 V-8 emblems, cleverly hiding the 421 cubic inch monster lurking under the hood.
In addition to the 421 engines, the Super Duty Lemans Tempests featured aluminum front sheetmetal, aluminum bumpers and a unique clutch-operated 4-speed transaxle. This transaxle arrangement placed more weight over the rear tires and allowed clutchless shifting, much like modern drag racing transmissions. Special parts on the 421 SD's included dual 4-barrel carbs mounted on the massive "bath tub" intake manifold, sealed aluminum cross-flow radiator with special overflow tank, and factory exhaust dumps. Other features included heater delete plates on the firewall, trunk mounted battery, special "black box" access door to the transaxle and clutch assembly, and hood scoop lifted from a competitor's medium duty truck line and given a Pontiac part number for the SD project.
The Super Duty Tempests were built over the Christmas holiday of 1962 and delivered just prior to the GM corporate racing ban of Jan 23, 1963. Pontiac abandoned factory-sponsored racing shortly thereafter, but not before making legends out of the drivers such as Arnie "Farmer" Beswick, Jess Tyree, and Arlen Vanke. "
So, I am still looking for one. Any help would be appreciated.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
This year I spent countless hrs on FTE classified and E BAY. I did find something on ebay and lost bid at over $200.
I later found a good looking subs 69-70 Mustantang mach One tha ibought $150 with inturnal turn sig. This looks as if it will conform to contour of hood.I plann on a using this on a 53 hood.
I think I covered every scrap yard looking on the internet.Don't seem to be any BIG OLD FORDS left but I 'sure there are.

and hood scoop lifted from a competitor's medium duty truck line and given a Pontiac part number for the SD project.

Thanks for the info! I thought they looked extremely close to Ford's. I had even mentioned this to darkman a while back when he was looking for one, but never did an actual search on the subject.

Keep your eyes peeled on e-bay using the key search words "Super duty hood scoop". They aren't on there every day, but at times I've seen several listed there at once.

Now, for the record, there is no difference between the two. The Super Duty and the factory Ford scoop are identical.
The other point of interest is that the bead rolls on the scoop match the bead rolls on the 57 and 58 hoods. Also the grill lines on the scoop match the bead rolls on the 57 and 58 hood.
Now, I have a question. How far from the back of the hood should the scoop be mounted. I was never able to find a scoop that was still on a Ford hood so I could not measure.
The side to side is easy, I just match up the bead rolls, but I need to know how far forward.
Thanks
