I have an 89 7.3 n/a from an F350, 4x4, 5 speed and would like to consider putting it in an 88 F250 4x4 with trans code Z. The 88 had a big block gasser. The seller is taking only the motor for a 70s F series build, selling the rest.
? Will my 7.3 bolt up to this trans? Do I need a different bell housing but existing gear box will be ok?
welcome to FTE.
the diesel trans is diesel specific bolt pattern , and will not bolt to the gas block.
you are going to have to find a trans for your specific engine, and the 351 and 460 also use different trans bolt patterns.
ZF transmissions have an integral bell. No swapping possible. Some here have talked about drilling these to fit, as they are not off by much. (diesel vs. 460 pattern) No first hand info on that.
