My “new-to-me” ‘85 F150 came adorned with a Summit aftermarket air filter housing. Like an Edelbrock. It needs a new filter bad, so I took it off to get a number.
the filter looks like it has been water soaked. It’s rusted on the back and the media is yellow/brown stained. When I took the lower filter housing off, water dumped out.
I realize it sits half way under the cowl, so I’m guessing a gasket is missing from the fire wall?
Even with the firewall to hood seal you can still get water on the air filter. I replaced mine with a new part from LMC and mine still gets a little water on top. Why I would never get rid of the stock air filter housing.
You must really like hot air! Honestly those things are junk and the filter costs over half of what the whole set up costs new. Regardless go to the parts store and get the mid height GM filter it fits and is fairly cheap.
