My '08 Expd had the same issue. ( the hood of my buddies '07 mustang GT had the same issue ). I took it back to ford dealer and showed him the body rust through warranty. he laughed and said it was because the tailgate was aluminum and I live in a salt air state- it oxidized. He said to read the fine print: NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.... My local body shop repainted it. Because they had to take it down to bare metal, seal, repaint and clear coat it was $1,400 all in to fix. So, that being said..... I will never buy a new Ford with an Aluminum body (read the fine print: NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.... )
