Morning. Have a 2007 Expedition with a 130,000 miles on it. At around 40-50 mph the starts to buck and is asking like a miss fire. No light comes on the dash and checked for codes and nothing. Could it be a coil pack going bad? Has original ones still and I am not going to try to pull the plugs on this. Should I just replace all of the coil packs? Thanks
Sounds like the problem is a coil. I would replace only the bad coil. Look for cracks on the top. You could buy one and move it around. That would be the cheapest way but take more time to fix the problem. I have had 3-4 coil failures between my Mercury Cougar and Mercury Sable. I never got a misfire a code either.
Because I had read every post on the forum regarding changing out spark plugs I got worried so I changed the spark plugs at 55,000 miles in my 2007 Navigator. No problem with stuck plugs and I used the Motorcraft plugs because they work best for Fords.
So you have 130,000 miles. Are those the original plugs? If so I can understand your reluctance to try to remove those plugs.
In case you need to bite the bullet, there is a recommended procedure and a special tool kit available to remove any plugs that breaks. Also there some youtube videos on the subject.
The tool works good and eliminates the $100. per broken plug surcharge that shops collected.
Good Luck,
Richard

But why replace all the COPs If the problem is caused by worn spark Plugs?
Hi everyone! I recently purchased 2007 Navigator, and a couple days ago I've got trouble, OBDII shows errors P0302, P0304. So, I'll try to change the coils first of all.
As I understood Accel are good coils, and the price is about $200. But I found 8 set for $89.90 at e-bay, and I'm not sure: 1) if they fit on my Navi (what is the part num for 2007 Navigator?); 2) if they are not fake for this cheap price...?
Or tell me Motocraft coils number for my Navi please! Thanks!
Dont waste your time just replacing coils. The problem is worn spark plugs, coils wont fix that. The OEM coils are pretty robust. You need a set of plugs and new coil BOOTS. When the cyl misfires the spark travels between the plug and boot to ground. This causes a small amount of rubber to vaporize and leave carbon tracks on the plug and boot. Replacing the coil only leaves the track on the plug. Replacing the plug only leaves the track in the boot. The track is an alternate path for the spark, you dont want that.
I fixed my trouble. Honestly, I was trying to fix it cheaper, and bought 2 ignition coils (AlDelco). Remind you, I had misfire in 2 & 4 cylinders. After coils replacement misfire in 4-th cylinder still left. So, I had to replace spark plugs any way (and I changed all the coil boots too). Now everything is good. Navi runs smooth again.
this morning misfire again. I went to the service center - cylinder #5.
We decided to check the spark plug, and it broke! the new one! Ok, I bought one more, changed it again, now is good. I hope that's it!
