On my 2018 F350 with the 6.7, there is a subtle click when the transmission downshifts to 1st while approaching a full stop (e.g. pulling up to a red light). I can watch the IPC change from 2 to 1 and the click coincides with the shift every time.
The click can be heard inside the cab and if the windows are rolled down, it can be heard outside as well.
I notice no other issues associated with the click.
The truck has about 3,500mi on it and it is bone stock.
Definitely haven't heard or experienced it. Is it a click or a clunk? Maybe a bad u-joint?
Definitely a click and it sounds like it is coming from bellhousing area of the trans rather than further aft by the driveshafts. With the radio on, it would be hard to notice. But with a quiet cab, it is noticeable everytime.
No click although I’ve noticed the 2-1 downshift can be harsh when exhaust brake is on.
I agree with this. Not sure why, but 2-1 downshift with exhaust brake is clunky for me too. I don't hear any "click", but i'll pay more attention tomorrow & see if i hear anything ...
Thanks guys. We are just about to leave on a ~4,000mi road trip and it's not looking like I have any time to get it to the dealer beforehand. Knock on wood, there are no other issues observed alongside the click.
Let me know if you guys hear anything now that you're listening for it.
My 17 F350 DRW has had this 1st gear click since new. It’s just like you mentioned, happens when coming to a stop and when the trans automatically downshifts from 2nd to 1st.
I’ve taken it by my dealer once and they said they couldn’t reproduce the sound, which is total BS as it does it every time it stops. Going to leave truck at dealer again to fix rattling doors issue and mention the 1st gear click again.
I suppose this may be a normal sound for the 6R140? I’ll report back on any findings.

I wouldnt be too worried about the click down shifting into first, both of my 6.7s with the 6r140 did it. If you really want to make a dealer notice it, use manual mode and come to a complete stop in 2nd, then while stopped push the - and select 1st and you’ll really hear it.
This above, mine is at 48,500 Km, and it’s done it since new. I can hear it if I have the radio turned down, windows up, if there is no conversation, it happens every time. I really don’t think it’s an issue, but it doesn’t hurt to have it recorded as an issue and investigated by your dealer. To me it sounds like a shift click.
2019 F-350 6.7 ccsb 4x4 born on 9-20-18 here. Click has always been there. Lot going on in the drive train so I'm calling this normal. Not a single issue with the truck after 8,000 miles.
I thought I was going crazy. I've had the exact symptom since December of 2021 and I've been trying to figure it out. I've had it to the dealer twice and another mechanic once. Every time they say everything is tight and the can't reproduce the sound. I tried the trick of putting it in manual mode, stopping in 2nd then dropping into 1st and there's the sound. This started around 70,000 miles on a 2016 F350 6.2L. I also get clunks going from drive to reverse and vise versa, I also get some random clunky shifts when driving, but there's no other signs of something wrong. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one
My 2019 w/6.7l has been doing this 2nd to 1st click as long as I've owned it. I think it happens less often in tow haul mode, the only other way I've found to avoid it is by allowing extra time slowing down before the stop. It is annoying, and I'd prefer it not be a thing but it is and I am just living with it unless it becomes an actual problem. Aside from that downshift click I don't really notice any other unusual sounds or clunking.
