so within the last week I have replaced everything except for the lines on my ac unit. I went to charge it today and my clutch engaged immediately engaged with no Freon in it. It was idling just fine with the clutch on. I went to leave a couple hours later with out realizing that I still had the ac turned on with my lights on and I completely lost all power. Any suggestions as to what might cause this? 1991 f350
Maybe one of the fuse links that go to the starter relay burned out..had this happen on a couple of my old trucks..Or sometimes they just corrode and fail..
welcome to FTE.
it sounds to me like you jumped the low pressure switch, or have a bad low pressure switch. the ac clutch should not be powered with a dry system .
DEFINITELY STOP running that engine off the clutch is engaging while dry. Oil will not circulate in the system and compressor, creating damage to the compressor.
disconnect your low side switch and see if that stops the engagement of the clutch.
Ok so I got the ac all fixed but it’s drawing to much power. At an idle it’s running at 14.3 volts, once I kick the ac on it drops and the truck dies about 5 seconds later. I also noticed that it’s not cycling and just staying on constantly
Well I went back to where I had it charged and they had overcharged it which was causing the ac clutch to lock up. Took just under half a pound out and running rust fine now
