Which is the right seam sealer to use on the bed seams.? should it be 3M 08500 or 3M0300. any help would be great.

My thoughts, don't take this as gospel:
The 08500 is the all around, interior/exterior. It's water based andcam be feather edged with a wet finger or took. It is also somewhat pliable after curing so it is less likely to crack.

The other is exterior and cures hard but is paintable much sooner.

are you planning on filling the seam or just replacing the sealer that is already in place? If filling completely, I would weld it. Otherwise, I would think the 08500 would last longer because it can flex with the bed. I would use the other for areas on the cab that won't flex.

Again, just my thoughts. Thinking through a problem. I'm curious to see if there really is a right answer.

On a separate note, are you the same lilorbie that has commented on nearly every video? 😎

I just did my bed over a month ago. I fully understand the welding approach as most likely being the best way to go. However, I really wanted to see the seam as original so here's what I did. First was to sandblast the seam with 000 sand very thoroughly. Then I used the Permatex rust kill aerosol product. In the past I've had good results with it. Then I sealed the seam with 3m 08637 sealer and used a home made radius tool to smooth it in nicely. Then onto Dupont 2-part epoxy prime and top coat. Will this work??? I'll be the first to find out. And should it fail, out comes the welder. And I should note that I blasted and primed/painted the back side of the bed the best I could. I needed something to do while the motor was being rebuilt. Now I just keep my fingers crossed.

I don't know of the 3M seam sealer as I used SEM seam sealer.
This was used on the floors, rockers, rear door post and the cab corners inside the door jamb.
(edit)I used 3M drip check sealer to touch up a little around the rain gutters.
I first used it from a caulk gun tube to force it into the larger gaps. Let it setup a day or 2 them used brush on, again both were SEM.
This stays flexable, if you want to "shape it" you need to use laquer thinner same for clean up.
I did top & bottom then did 2 coats of brush / roll on bed liner.

I have to make a correction in my post above for the rain gutters I use 3M drip check sealer, it dries hard.

None of the local Auto Body supply stores carry it or even get it for you? Not that there is anything wrong with 3M, I have used other 3M products.

I would use nothing else but SEM when redoing the inside of my trucks or cars and need to repaint the dash, door panels or A posts panels.
They say you can use it on seats to change colors. I have only used it on dashes but will do door & kick panels when I get that far.

FYI others have used Color Bond for the inside to do the same as the SEM product.
