96 F-150 engine dies
For the last couple of months, my dads 96 F-150 5.0 has been losing its mind. I am seeking any and all advise for the problems.
The truck sometimes starts and runs with no problems at all, except for the air bag light that blinks on and off, on the average though it starts up and then dies if you are not holding the gas pedal down some. Sometimes it runs fine then sometimes it dies whenever you let of the gas - coming to a stop, making a turn etc. When it is running, runs like a champ - no miss or harshness, very smooth. We have done most of your average tune-up already. I believe that the flashing air bag light and the engine dying problem started at the same time though I don't know if they are related. As I said, It runs as smooth as anyone could wish when it is running, but when it dies it just completely dies -- no hesitation or anything, just like you cut the switch off. It does however start back up and stays running with some gas applied.
Thanks,
Chris

Well my dad has a 96 F-150 5.0 and he had the exact same problem. Would just die for no reason, and then sometimes it would run like a champ. The problem turned out to be the battery. He had a dead cell in it. Lights and everything worked fine, so he didn't think it was a battery problem. When he put a new battery in it, he has not had a problem since. It's worth a shot. I hope it works for your truck too.
