You would think this big spring would pull the pedal back up with no problem, however it does not. When I push the pedal down it will stay down. I can pull it up but the spring does not seem to do it's part. I don't know if it is the angle of the piece that holds (connects) the spring or if it is just a weak spring. Its hard to believe this big spring will not bring the pedal back into position. Here are some pictures ( I always like pictures). By the way I put a new clutch spring down below (9.16"). The long spring that attaches to the clutch adjusting rod should not have anything to do with the clutch pedal returning (I don't think??
Well, I'm no expert, but I don't see how that spring could ever have any effect on the clutch pedal. When depressing the pedal, that spring would lose all tension. If anything, it would prevent the pedal from returning to the "up" position.

I just looked at mine, and it appears to be the same, but it works to pull the pedal up. When the pedal is pushed in, this spring is not in use. It only works to pull the pedal up after the pedal is almost all the way back.
Do you have the clutch in your truck? it has to be there to push the pedal part way back.
Here's the pic from the MPC. It doesn't show where the rear hook is attached.
First, your clutch rod running through the floor is bent horribly. It should be straight and is more than likely binding. The clutch itself and the spring on the clutch fork help return the clutch pedal.
7A600 is the clutch fork assist spring, one end attaches to the pedal (7519), the other end to the bracket the brake/clutch pedals suspend from (01508) under the dash.
7523 is the clutch fork release spring, attaches to the fork (7515), then to a hole (or bracket) located on the top of the frame rail in front of the outer clutch equalizer bar pivot (7507)
The clutch release rod (7521) attaches to the clutch pedal bellcrank (7A554) under the dash, then routes thru the toe board to the clutch equalizer bar (7528).
This rod has 90 degree ends w/a nylon bushing (7526) on each (the OP's rod is horribly bent).
The bushings crack apart, the 90 degree ends begin to crack, eventually break off. The clutch pedal drops to the floor, lays there like a drunken sailor.
I agree that the clutch rod is bent and I will buy a replacement. I did not think that the clutch fork spring had anything to do with pulling the pedal back up, but I will replace the old spring today with a new spring and I hope it helps pull the pedal back up. I had already printed out the diagram that ND shows on his post and every thing looks the same except the bent clutch rod. I looked at the clutch setup on my 66' F350 but it is all together different.
You would think that with a spring as big as the one under the dash attached to the clutch pedal it would for sure pull the pedal back. I will keep trying things until I get it solved.
Thanks for the comments.

The big spring doesn't come into play until the pedal is most of the way out. I was surprised to watch that on my truck after you originally posted this.
I measured my clutch fork spring and it measured 14". I read some where and I do not remember where that this spring should be 9.16" long. So, I started to cut my old spring off in increments of 1" and trying it out to see if the pedal would return properly. When I got to 12" the pedal was much improved. My thinking was that this spring did not have anything to do with the pedal return, but I was wrong.....again.

Maybe the MPC is where you read the length is 9.16"?
I had to pull up my old post concerning the clutch pedal not coming back. The reason to pull up the old post is because "sixty five ford" mentioned that my clutch rod is bent and it for sure is. However I looked at all my catalogs and I can not find anyone that has a clutch rod for a 1966 f100. Can anyone point me in the right direction to purchase one?
thanks

National Parts Depot has "upper clutch release rods" for '61-'63, 17.75". '64 at 17.25". Maybe one of those would work. I'll measure the one on my
'66 this weekend if no one else knows the length of them.
