Kill switch help ?

Alright so apparently I live in the hood and my truck is getting ****ed with. I know the basics of adding a killswitch but I have a question. Can I run my killswitch to my dual fuel tank solenoid fuse and have it actually kill it so It wont crank ? i know i can do it to the ignition wires but I'm not exactly sure what wire it needs to be spliced with. thanks

If you connect it to the tank solenoid wouldn't that just keep it from switching tanks? If you had an electric fuel pump you could isolate the pump to keep it from feeding to engine. I don't see any other way to isolate fuel other than physically unhooking something.

As far as isolating the ignition, I'd imagine any wire that's directly involved with keeping the engine running would be a candidate for a toggle switch. Please research it more and don't take my advice as I've never done such a thing. Whenever I wanted to keep someone from taking my car/truck/whatever, I'd just take the coil wire off the distributor and take it with me. lol Sure, they can crank it all they want, but it won't start unless they go get another one.

I'm sure there are plenty of guys that know how to do what you want, so give it a little time and I'm sure you'll get an answer. I've seen pics of guys' dashes on here with rows of switches for various things like fuel pumps, ignitions, fans, lights, etc. It can be done!

Wire to coil could have a switch installed, main battery cable could have one, fuel pump (electric).

Your S wire on the starter solenoid should go directly to the ignition switch. That could be routed to be used as a kill switch.

These trucks are so easy to hot wire a kill switch could be bypassed easily. I can get these trucks running from under the hood with a couple wires, then just break the column to shift it. I'd be looking at mechanically locking the truck with something like The Club, a removable steering wheel, a giant chain through the wheel to the chassis, or maybe get your own wheel boot? You can get them for around $50, around $150 for the heavier duty ones.

I'd try catching one of the POS's first and making sure he , and everyone within a few blocks, knows not to touch my truck.

Poster has a point about starting the truck from the engine bay. I can say from personal experience: DO NOT USE THE CLUB!! I was able to hack saw through it in about 3 minutes. Had to rescue my friend's car in the city when he was arrested.

Kick the wheel hard enough to taco it and the Club is off... less than 5 seconds. Best defense is a) hood lock and b) hidden kill switch. A thief can bypass a kill switch but probably will not want to take time to do so. I have seen kill switches actuated by the glovebox door, ashtray, emergency brake... use your imagination. He did make a point -if they really want it, they will get it. But if they can't get under the hood and they see the truck will need work to start, the normal thief will walk away.

I have good latch, fuel pump kill switch and another hidden backup on mine. Not impenetrable, but they are going to be there a few minutes. Plus it’s a stick, so that’s my backup defense.

Maybe you could fashion a good hood lock? A long padlock or a short bike lock would be where I'd start. What if, when you wired up your killswitch you made the ignition power a alarm? Place very loud alarm under the hood. That way a thief has no crank, no way into the hood, and a loud alarm going off to deal with.

What if you didn't even have an alarm and just set killswitch to power the horn instead of the starter. So everytime they turned the key it only honks not crank.

Shotgun with 00. Or, if you don't want to hurt your truck, shotgun with rock salt loads. You'll most likely hear the little miscreants and be up/awake anyway, so....why not?

I'd personally recommend getting an German Shepard or pitbull and just letting it sleep in the truck at night. Put a camera outside your house to see the reaction of the little ****ers when they wake it up!

I have a kill switch, 8 cameras on my house, a Pit and a .45, seem to work pretty good so far. Plus all my neighbors think I'm crazy so that helps, and word spreads quickly. Especially when they can watch you have a fist fight with a snowblower in the middle of a blizzard.... I won, it has run perfect since that day. The only thing that has ever gone missing on my property was an old yellow toilet seat????? thats a story for another day.....

Connect a wire on Dist side of coil and run it to switch then to ground. Even if they use wires under hood to hotwire, as long as coil is grounded on Dist side will not start.

I'm hoping my club (on an aftermarket smaller steering wheel) and the fact it's a manual sends thieves onto the next target, but I was also considering LoJack until I found out how much it costs....
