My check engine light just came on on the way home and I pulled into Autozone. They told me the code, but i just forgot it. It had something to do with a large leak in the emissions or something... Sound familiar? Ideas of what it could be? Not running bad, or missing...Truck just hit 130,000 last night. V6 5spd. My book from autozone did not really give me any help.
Thanks,
Chad
The OBDII emissions system will pull a vacuum on the gas tank vapor recovery system. If it cannot hold a vacuum for a specified time it will set a code. If you left your engine running while fueling, or did not put back on your gas cap (or not tightly), then it will see the big hole at the end of the pipe as an evap leak.
Make sure your cap is on and tight, then clear the ecm code. I'm sure you can disconnect the battery to do it, but there might be a better way if you don't have a scanner.
Also, never topoff the tank. Stop when the pump kicks off. If you put too much fuel in it, you get liquid fuel into the vapor recovery and it will trip the light every time. I have reset dozens of lights because of this!!!
