Exclamation Tailgate won't open???

I decided to take the drop-in bed liner out and wash out the bed.... as I worked I opened and closed the tailgate a bunch of times... the last time I closed it it shut and will not open again.... almost like its LOCKED... I toggled the locks on the door with the switch... still won't open...

did I flood the lock actuator?
has anybody had the tailgate apart before?
or have any info on how to get to linkage and actuator? diagram or pic?

thanks guys

Take out the panel on the inside face. Held in place by a few screws. From there you can pull on the cable release and open the latches. I sounds to me like the lock actuator quit.

UPDATE:

Thanks... I let it sit this afternoon and sun dried it up and using Fob I can hear and feel the actuator working inside the tailgate...so I will have to open tailgate..HOpe I can get in there with it in the up position.. it's got the plastic part of the drop-in bed liner kit on the back of the gate. I do have Factory warranty remaining... And MasterTech 7yr/100000 bumper to bumper from date of purchase...but just don't have time to sit at dealer... Maybe Wednesday..think I have that day off...

It's a mechanical part anyways, first 30k miles are a comprehensive warranty, almost everything should be covered.

If you can hear it trying, then try adding pressure. First, push the top of the tailgate in the closed direction. Attempt to open, then pull after it clicks. If pushing in the closed direction doesn’t do it, try pulling in the open. It might just be a little jammed in there. Maybe a rubber bumper spun around.

pulling out the bed liner very well could have spun a runner bumper around... Thanks
I have tried throwing a shoulder into it from outside and sitting in the bed facing the gate and driving open with my legs
No luck so far... I will hopefully have some downtime at firehouse tomorrow... will keep u posted thanks again

I’d have the dealer fix it since it’s under warranty. Sounds like a part failed vs you doing something to it. It should be able to withstand stuff being dumped in the bed, hail, snow, wind, rocks, etc etc.

FIXED IT! Watched a few YouTube's.. opened up back of gate.... The yellow clip for the latch popped out of it's hole.. put it back in... Cleaned up inside of tailgate and under bed liner cover... Closed it back up. ..All Good! Thanks for the help!

I bet I'm not the only guy that has filed away this info for future problems. Well done.

Naturally that clip comes off the front facing side... So guessing I slammed it and it popped off forward... I will probably buy a few clips... To get a better keep in the hole and have spares
