I have a 1993 F-150 XLT 5.0 4wd it's an E4OD. Anywho. It shifts manually but if you just leave it in OD it revs real high then shifts hard I've already changed the rear differential speed sensor, change the Trans control solenoid when I changed the fluid and filter. I'm thinking its the overdrive cancel switch? Thoughts? Thanks in advance
It would not be the OD switch then.
You will have to fix the ASB light being on before your problem will be solved.
Maybe wiring under the truck, the VSS plug, the modules or the rear end itself.
In other word you will have hard shifting until the PSOM gets a good signal from the rear end sensor.
Let me ask you this motor has 290,000 .miles on it but cranks one turn no problem think I should just get a rebuilt transmission? Like I said 4wd works fine but it shifts hard in 1st and second if you start in OD in 2wd but if you Start in 1st in **** up manually it shifts fine
An OBD1 reader will work.
VSS: Vehicle Speed Sensor.
But in 1993 it was called the DSS.
DSS: Differential Speed Sensor.
If the speed information from the PSOM to the PCM Computer is bad you will get a VSS error.
To check for stored codes sometime called CM codes you run the KOEO self-test and when the KOEO electrical test is done you let the test continue and you will get a separator pulse and then the CM stored codes will read out. See diagram below.
CM: Continuous Memory.
