Need Smog but have glow plug codes.
I have a e99 7.3 and the time has come to get a smog(CA). Truck is back to stock but I have had glow plug codes and they have been on for some time. P1391&P1393. Plugs are motor craft and ohmed within all desired ranges as well as relay testing out good. Valve cover gaskets were replaced. Just need a idea where to start next.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Could be the GPR itself. Here's a link to Guzzle's write up with info on testing and the Stancor mod.
Be sure to complete the "drive cycle" after you clear the codes or it will fail again.

The new relay from auto zone didn’t last a week. I replaced it with another autozone one Cleared my codes and drove around with a hot truck long enough to have the computer run the misfire and cc monitors. It passed smog that day then the relay failed 2 days later. I ordered up a white Rodgers gpr and will be mounting that next.

It's all based on OBDII compliance. CA doesn't smog '98 and earlier diesels because of this. Dodge, Chevy, and Ford all started a new "generation" of their HD truck lines in '99 and they were OBDII compliant. I'm not sure about the others but the Superduty was only partially compliant (which is why you have to get a specific "bundle" to fully communicate with our trucks) but have enough general code capabilities to still be enough for the state to ensure you're compliant-ish . That is why your '99 will always be tested (even the E99).
The down side is that our trucks will always be tested but the silver lining is that they can only read the things that actually set the SES light. Soft codes like the AIH and EBPV don't set off the SES and you won't be hit by those on a smog test.
