Sorry if this has been covered before, but I keep finding confusing results in my research.
I have a 68 F-250 CS, 2WD with a C6 that leaks fluid around the shift shaft. I'm pretty sure it's not just the outer O ring because the fluid is bleeding out from between the lever and the trans case. Nasty mess, but replacing the seals looks fairly easy.
The problem is that the name "Cruise-O-Matic" seems to be used somewhat loosely. The guys at Macs aren't sure. The description on their page says "Oil seal & O Ring - Cruise-O-Matic C4 & C6" but the 'fitment' section says "Fits Cruise-O-Matic transmission only."
mine leaked from there to , you need to drop the pan and take that lever completely out . I had to cut and bend a box wrench to fit in the tight area inside to get the nut loose and to tighten it back up ( i put some blue lock tight on) to make sure it didn't wiggle loose .
I bought a 68 c6 trans gasket kit off ebay that had everything i needed but the correct yoke seal . had to get that at autozone

What's the deal? Is a C6 a Cruise-O-Matic or not. Yes & no.
When introduced in 1966. the C6 was referred to as a C6 Cruise-O-Matic. Several years later, Ford dropped "Cruise-O-Matic" from the title, trans then became known as the C6.
Lower pic, 7B498 is the only seal...there's no o-ring.

Thanks! That explains the confusion.
My '68 has the neutral safety switch on the steering column. What year did Ford move it?

You'll have to drop the pan and the valve body to remove the retaining nut inside. The larger seal is for where the shifter goes into the trans body. The smaller one is for where the kickdown goes into the shifter.

That's my understanding. Shouldn't be too difficult, just a little messy. Fun, fun, fun.
Yes, you'll be wishing your tranny had a drain plug. By the way if you are lying under there be careful with proper support and chocks. Don't forget it's the shifter you are pulling so it will be out of gear. Good luck.
