I'm curious, what is the typical mileage (that this form believes) is the average for a 1st gen Escape XLT with 4x4? I'm getting anywhere from 17.5-19.5 mpg in an average week, driving to work. I have a little MPG-shock after dumping my Impala which got closer to 23-24
I figure the 4x4 gets worse mileage than the 2WD but I wonder if there's something I can do to make it better? I've replaced the plugs and I think that helped a little, I want to look at the air filter next but am I missing anything? Tires are in excellent shape, so I doubt I'd see any change there.
I'v yet to put plugs in mine. But it's on the list. My truck has 117k on it and my commute is all back oads stop and go and last tank I averaged 18.8. I have 4wd and the 2.3.
don't feel too bad, my wife' 16 Aquino awd/2.5 is about 1 mpg or so less than my 13yr old escape and she takes the highway to work in the morning. On the highway, I can average in the upper 20s.
remeber these are awd trucks and much heavier/ more moving parts than a fwd car. The mileage will be worse.
I wonder how the new escapes do in city mpg? I'd bet the 1.5 eb does pretty good
My '02 was about the same fuel mileage, up to 24 on the highway (long trip - NY to FL).
I actually found that the GoodYear FuelMax tires did make a difference and had decent traction in snow. Never got stuck with it and actually passed one of the local police vehicles (GM brand) that couldn't make it up a hill near home during a bout of freezing rain. I was grinning and waving, he wasn't
Only changed the plugs once, kept the filters and oil up. Check your tire pressures once per month.
I get 19 urban mix and 24 pure highway on US gallons from my 2001 V6. Swapping out the COPs gained me about 10% up to these figures despite their symptom only being a mild occasional shudder/hesitation in OD at low rpm.
