Forgot to take the camera out this afternoon but had these snapped
Cut this door the same less the complete cut here . Tried to get a similar angle for comparison .
Not immediately noticeable but that's the idea . It will look and " flow " better to me if to no one else . Plus allow me to pancake the hood slightly and not exaggerate the backwards slop of the drip rail .
Well Morris I keep saying these mods have to come to a stop or this truck will never see the road . Then I sit on a stool with a frosty in my hand and think " am I going to be completely happy if I don't do allot of these " and my answer most times is no . Of course the fact that I'm not paying anybody to do it does help and the fact that my time estimates ( also the time I will not be working on other peoples stuff making money ) seem to be extremely frugal . The hood pancake along with many others are still in negotiations .
One hundred hours, at let's say $50 per hour--that makes the cost of the hood pancake out to be $5,000. That same $5,000 could buy a pretty spectacular paint job, or think of the stereo system that kind of money could buy--or engine modifications. For $5,000, you could convert your truck to four wheel drive. The casual observer may not even notice the hood pancake. So, that's just another perspective to consider. I get it that it's your time and your truck and you are building it to according to your vision. Whatever you do, you do great work, and you can be very proud of your truck and the craftsmanship you put into it.
Thanks .Yup and that's at $50/h imagine paying Kindigit's hourly rate . Pretty easy to envision yourself a 6 figure ( that doesn't start with a 1 ) truck . I don't keep track for obvious reasons but a reasonable estimate would be 300 hours on the cab so far and not anywhere near done . Now in all fairness a portion of that is me " learning " as I have no experience in these type of modifications .
Yeah its hard to decide where to stop, I think to myself thats good enough, and 10 min later I am tweaking it more. And after seeing this I am back to considering the chop again lol. How much are you thinking for the pancake, about 1.5 inches?
If I do the pancake it also will be very subtle , probably in that 1.5" range . Again I am not looking for mods that can be picked out easily just a cleaner ( at least in my mind ) look that people will know somethings up but not be sure of what .
looking really good! small chop makes a big difference! I got a 55 that I slightly chopped and I pancaked the hood 1.5, looked really good but I never finished it still in tha back shed!
It'll look great but it's not something that anyone with a lack of experience should attempt.
I would like to politely disagree here. You never know what you are a capable without trying it. Perhaps the next thing you try will be your greatest achievement ever.. Could be anything in life. If I listened to everyone when I started my build, I would have sold it and crawled back into a hole. If it was not for a couple of guys coming done and talking to me that is what would have happened. For sure it takes time and some planning but you can do anything as long as you are willing to try it. This could be anything in life.
Rant is now over, back to regular programing.
Ebear you build is great.
You two and John are amazing with what you can do with metal. Hate to derail this thread but can you get any pictures of your chopped 55 and the pancaked hood in the back shed? It sounds very interesting but no rush for the pictures till spring.
