Last summer I sanded down the corners of my rear door on my cc and also the corner of the door jamb. I sanded to bare metal and then put multiple coats of primer and multiple coats of paint on. Looks like the rust is coming back through!! How do I get rid of the rust for good? These are just little spots but I don't want them to grow.
You need to use something that kills the rust and converts it.
Stop in at a Auto body paint shop and ask them for something to kill the rust.
The conversion stuff needs the rust to make it work. In most cases it has
phosphoric acid in it. Just get the stuff that they auto painters use and skip Home Depot and Lowes. Phosphoric acid, rust conversion
I suggest that you try Eastwood - https://www.eastwood.com/. I have used their products over the years and they do have products that will encapsulate the rust. Good luck
I have BlackStar that I used on things with ok success but it leaves a film behind on any non-rusted surfaces that can be a pain to clean.I'll probably try it this time around.
Clean to metal, spray to convert any remaining rust but not the good clean metal. Remember there are 2 sides to the metal. If the rust is at a joint or over lap be sure to treat both sides of the metal. ( Inside of the door or back side). spray on a epoxy sealer or a rust sealer like POR15 or Rustbullet or any other brand. The best stuff is expensive like 30 to 50 a QT. 2 part paint products are very good. Never never never buy the store kind of primer in a can. it is a soft paint and will not last. repaint color. 2 part paint. paint with hardener or activator. Places like Eastwood have lots of videos on how to do this.

Very good points.
I bet we could get into a whole lot of paint info. After all there is a science to this along with the art part.
