Replaced a starter today

My truck's starter went last night out on the street. 4 hour parking only. shorted the starter from the wire on the passenger side still nothing. Starter it is. Called the dealership this morning $589.00 plus tax (Canadian). wow. they had to order it in maybe tomorrow. I need my truck (daily driver) for work plus appointment this week.Called local Canadian tire. 1 in stock $259.00 plus tax less core $10.00.
Seems to start nice and fast, only thing is the sound isn't the same, sound pitch. I'll get an audio recording tomorrow and post it.
Took me 1 3/4 hours to complete on the street next to the curb.

Question anyone else use a Canadian Tire starter on there truck?

No, I haven't been to Canada in many years. Even considering the exchange rate, it is completely outrageous what they are charging for replacement parts. Good job on the on-street wrenching; nothing like a 4 hour parking sign to keep you focussed. haha.

Sure does.
That's about $470 US. Is that what they cost your way.

Net of the core, I think the $US equivalent is around $194 as the exchange rate today is around $.78 US =$1.00 C. I think you can get a starter at O'Reilly for between $135 to $175 US in the lower 48. That said, it has been a few years since I have been to Canada with the Ford and trailer. I thought Canadian Tire was a tad pricey but they were always decent to me. We did enjoy all our trips to Canada and meeting the people and seeing the sites.

Two years ago my starter quit up at the cottage with no warning. Had to change it at -22 degrees Celcius. I bought a Canadian Tire one as they were the closest for parts. Had it on for about three days and it started acting up right away so back it went. I then got a starter from a friend which just quit last week. I then put a 6.4 starter on mine which I picked up at London Auto Parts/Reman. This was a new one(???) which they sold me for $168.00 CDN with no core required. Noticed a huge difference in cranking speed. I do believe that you are better off with a Ford original but the prices are just crazy in Canada. I plan on doing a rebuild on my old one and if I do a long trip( ie cottage I will put it in the trailer with the boat or snowmobiles.

I bought a Crappy Tire rebuilt starter lasted about 3 years with No winter driving. Bought a new Ford starter and it cranks faster than the Crappy Tire one I had, and came from China. So time will tell.

OUCH they slaped you around quite a vit on that. If your ever stuck again
you can always use a 6.4L starter. The guy that owns the truck won't even miss it.

Boy, you guys up north sure get hosed on prices. Shipping to the interior that much higher?

Uncle and Aunt in Abbotsford will often shop just south of the border when the prices are right. He did tell me that sometimes the crossing times make it less worth it though.
