Salt eats bare Aluminum really well . I just replaced a door on one of our 2017 F150 trucks there was signed of corrosion at the bottom inside of the door box .
It was not replaced due to the corrosion , had a big ol dent in it , I would say a full 36pk of coors weighed more than that door .
I have not seen any of our aluminum truck take any big hits thank god , but talking to a body shop there getting allmost twice what it cost to repair steel .
I'm not really impressed with the new ford aluminum bodies , most of our trucks that work in the city look like golf ***** .
Like I said I live by Por-15 if it rust or corrodes paint it .
I'm currently going through my 01' F250 and here in WNY vehicles take a beating during the winter months. Since this truck has been nothing but good to me and only has 130k on the clock, I'm putting the time in to give it some TLC. With the exception of the usual bed panel rust and rocker/cab corner rust, mechanically it's as good as the day my father originally bought it in 00'. I swapped out the bed and cleaned up the cab parts and make sure it was prepped properly.
I've used POR15 for many projects in the past, but was recently turned to Corroseal. The stuff works great and is very easy to use, plus, easier to clean up IMHO. Anyone looking to clean up any rusted parts, chassis, etc. may find Corroseal a better option? You can find a gallon of it on Amazon for about $60... Other than than, if you don't use some sort of rust preventative when you first get a new truck......it's a ticking time bomb!
It seems to me most of this is lack of maintenance, I'm in the salt belt and my 04 is driven year round. I maintain my truck even if that's a quick wire wheel then primer and some black semi gloss on the chassis. It gets f look ished out as soon as the temp is above freezing and then a good flush and fluid film coating before summer and right before winter. 165k and shes rust free still and I see no problem with passing this truck down to my kids in near perfect condition
We probably put more “ore” back into the earth here with all the rusty vehicles than anywhere else.
Hahaha! Sad way to look at it!

I agree, I have multiple other vehicle that I owned since new (00', 03', 05') and they were all "rustproofed" from new and done annually since new and with the exception of some previous rust spots/repairs from say stone chips and freak occurrences, they still look great and rust free! Not bad in my opinion!
