I never bought Factory Navigation on any Vehicle before buying it on my 2016 F250 Lariat back in Oct. 2015. So I get in the 2.5 Year old Truck and when I turned on the Key a message Pops up saying that the Nav. Card needs to be Replaced, and I could not bring up the navigation screen. So since I was due for an oil Change anyway I went to the Dealer, and when he wrote it up I mentioned the Nav was not working. The Service Writer tells me that the Nav Card needs to be Replaced with an Updated one for $150.00. I can't believe that after Paying $900 for a Factory Installed Nav. System I will have to Pay $150 Ransom every 2.5 Years to keep it working.
Let me get this straight - the navigation quits working after a time period? Holy Customer Dissatisfaction Bat Man!!! I wonder if the Sync 2 display console would fit up the marketing guy's aft hole?
Not sure why yours stopped working but they are not designed to stop working as it appears yours did. Nor should the SD being a few years old stop it from working
I have bought the SD cards off eBay for like $45 each for the last 3 years. No way would I pay $150 for a dealer to replace it.
Also, if the SD card was bad or had been popped out, it would give a message about needing to insert the SD card on the radio screen.
Shouldn’t stop working. I’ve only upgraded my 2011 once - last year.
not even sure how the system would know an update is available unless it is checking via cellphone ir wifi, in which case you should be able to tell it somewhere to not check for updates
Well mine did stop functioning. When I hit the Tab to go to Navagation nothing happened. I removed the SD Card and cleaned the Contacts and it still didn't work. It kept giving me a message that the Card needed to be Replaced.
When I told the Service Writer about the Concern, he said that my Card was several levels out of date. Geez the Truck is only 2.5 years old. Anyway when they finished the Service my Nav. was working, and my Bill was +$157.00.
Sure wish that I knew that I could get a Card on ebay. Next time I will check there 1st
To me navigation updates are “perishable” in that constant construction and road changes make any maps obsolete after a few years. Just like I do not think Ford should be buying me new tires, oil and filters, windshield wipers etc. for the rest of my life they are not responsible to give me free navigation updates either. Yes, some companies theoretically do such but the freebies are actually part of the original vehicle cost. $150 for an update is outragous but places like EBay is our other option.
