Hey,
I just completed a timing chain job on the wife's 2008 Ford expedition 5.4 3 valve, now when it's running hot or under a load I get a #5 misfire.. A buddy told my I needed to perform a timing relearn for the timing sensors.. Is this accurate and if so does anyone know how to do it lol..
Doing a relearn procedure is never a bad idea right after changing major components. But all it does is speed up the process that will occur naturally in a few miles / drive cycles. So don't stress about it. But I would wager, it has nothing to do with your misfire. When VVT is working right and retarding cams, light load at low RPM places maximum stress on ignition. My thoughts are you have a spark plug breaking down (They can be bad out of the box). Or A boot that has hardened / cracked and harboring moisture that arcs over, or a COP spring not making good contact, or a COP plug with broken clip. Replace that plug and do a 'hospital clean' plug installation (without greasy finger prints) and see what happens.
