timing chain

First off, just want to comment on what a great site this is. I've learned quite a bit about my truck. My 99 Navigator has 142k well maintained miles, and runs like a dream. By far the best truck I've ever owned. My question is, from what I understand these (5.4) are interference engines. Has anyone had timing chain or tensioner problems? Should I think about having it replaced? I mean, if this thing breaks, it will no doubt wipe out all the valves, and at my mileage, may as well say "goodbye motor". I know that back in the day timing chains were good for 200k, but i'm not looking forward to the price of a new engine if this one breaks. And if anyone has had theirs replaced, what kind of money did it run? Mega bucks? Thanks guys!

You pose an interesting question: Incur the cost of installing new chains and tensioners on an engine with 142k, buying some time until the engine is too tired to continue, or wait until the engine craps out and replace with a rebuilt? I'm assuming that this is a 2V 5.4, not the later 4V. My greatest fear would be to incur the cost of the chain service, then watch a spark plug launch from the cylinder head.

Has anyone ever had a timing change go on a V8? My experience it you will see head gasket, rings or valve guide problems well before the timing chain.

yes, it is the 2v engine. and spark plug launching hasn't happened yet, (thank god)
