About a month ago I went to start my truck and it would not start. In the process I noticed the fuel pump stayed on with the key in run instead of the normal turning off after 1-2 secs. I also could not pull any codes. Did some research and most lead me to the PCM being the issue. Sure enough after removing the pcm and opening the cover I saw one of the capacitors was leaking black goo. I ordered a reman cardone and installed it a coupe of days prior, and the truck started just fine. Yesterday I drove around the yard picking up debris to take to the dump. The first trip out went fine, although I did notice a slight miss when cruising around 45-50mph. The second trip was about twice as long distance wise as I had to swing thru a drivethru for some ice cream. On the way back, sitting in the turning lane to turn down my road, the truck just shut off. Put it in park and cranked and it would crank just fine, but would not start. I tried numerous times over the 5-10 mins(maybe longer? felt like an enternity lol) it almost started once. I could not tell if the fuel pump was running as the traffic was somewhat steady. It finally did start and I darted across the road and made it home. Cut it off and back on and it started fine. Went in grabbed my code reader and hooked it up. KOEO got 111, CM 211. KOER got 111. Most thing I read say with a 211 I should replace the distributor. I do plan to follow the electrical testing steps, but I am not sure it will tell me anything as the truck has started and run fine at idle sitting in the yard. The truck does has 262k miles on it and I have had it since 210k. Got it from my uncle in early 2000. It has run great since I have had it with no major issues. My main question is, should I suspect the reman PCM?
The truck has been running fine for the most part since I had the stalling issue, however I haven't gone very far until today. Yesterday I pulled the cap and rotor off and took the wheel out. It is a little dirty. I took a picture but couldn't really get a good one in focus. When I took the truck out today to run some errands, I noticed it is still doing like a misfire/stumble while staying at a constant idle. No codes anymore, KOEO, CM and KOER all come back 111. I did notice when I took the cap off that it is time to replace the cap and rotor. I went ahead and ordered a brand new distributor for $75, it of course comes with cap and rotor which would have run me around $30 anyway. So I figured I would go ahead and get the whole thing. Course I also need to get a timing light.
