Just put it in sport mode and drive as you normally would. I do it damn near every time I get in the truck. I wish I could make it the default mode. One doesn't have to drive hard to enjoy the difference.
What I don't care for is the "hang shift" thing it does after on it a bit, then back off. What's that all about? I've heard it's desirable for some when driving in a lot of curves and hills. To me, it's unnerving.

You ever drive a manual transmission in a high performance application? That's what sport mode is trying to emulate.
Yes My 2018 5.0 has it. I ran it a couple times. I like it in heavy traffic keeps the truck in a lower gear for quicker acceleation my mostly because it gives more engine braking, so I use less brake less.
Has anyone noticed a MPG difference if you use it frequently? Ive only played around with the sport mode for short bursts.
It dependfa on what you are doing. if you are hotrodding the mileage sucks. if you do as i answered on a previous question for better vehicle control in heavy traffic almost no difference. maybe 1 or 2 tenths.
I don't know if it makes any real difference, but I use Sport mode when in Manual mode and using my Paddle shifters. I think it still has better response than normal mode. With the paddle shifters, you can shift on up to 6th, where as in drive and sport you have to be moving along pretty good. Driving conservatively in Sport, Manual and using paddles, the mileage doesn't drop that much. You can down shift at any time without having to push down on gas pedal. And during all this, the Raptor exhaust really sounds good. My truck is no T-Bird, but it is FUN, FUN, FUN!

LOL, Ya, once or twice, I'm a product of the late ''60's, Darts, Dusters, 'Cudas, Roadrunners, 440's 426 Wedge, 383, 340. You could say I've been in a couple. Never used any for road racing, except in a straight line.
No sense in pretending I'm in a 911 when I'm in a 150.

yep, I agree. Its abit rough on front tires and brakes when tossing around a 5000 pound vehicle on a tight course.
The problem with an automatic transmission is that it can't "see" the curve or the hill. I use manual mode about 75% of the time when towing. I like being able to downshift at the bottom of a hill instead of halfway up. Or dropping down a gear at the crest of a hill instead of when it's to late on the backside .

I see what you're saying, I'll gear down a lot when getting off the expressway. I can certainly see the advantage if towing, same as what I used to do in a former life driving heavyhaul. Keep the rpms up, for climbing, and easier on the brakes on the down side.
Sport mode is available at all option levels. I have a base model XL. 3.3L NA engine. On its own, it has been a big improvement over my 2003 4.6L. In sport mode that little motor's got some teeth.

What he said. It is fun to show them teeth every now and then.
