So as it turns out I need a Special Tool to remove and install injector cups on my 7.3. I seen they go for 300 and above, I'm having a hard time paying that if I'm only gonna use it once. I was hoping some on here who lives in the Daytona Beach area or someone that will mail it that might help me out. I'm willing to rent it. thanks in advance for any help.
I did look at them they only charge $50 to rent the tool but that is after a $499 deposit and I have already spent a lot on parts and a tow so I don't have that sorta cash to put up front right now. I was saving that as a last resort
I think a hold of a fixed value on a card suffices as a deposit. I used to do a lot of traveling, and I always saw value holds on my cards when I rented cars - it was their version of a deposit. You don't actually spend the money unless you forfeit the deposit.
Did you already buy the cups and sealant? Rosewood diesel sells a kit for 450 that comes with cups, sealant, o-ring kits for all injectors, and the tool. I used the rosewood took when I did mine and it worked great. No problems at all. I was skeptical due to the limited clearance and having to use a hammer, but a 2 lb hammer made easy work of the install. All you have to do is drop the hammer a few times, no swinging needed. The took is definitely worth buying. If nothing else, then you can rent it to your buddies. They also sel li the took itself for 250.
I received the tools and cups yesterday and they worked great. But now I'm wondering if something went wrong because of all the white smoke and poor performance during driving. I've driven about 100 miles and the truck is getting worse it seems?
Several users over the past year have had issues getting things dialed back in after cups. What else did you replace?
Since you drained some fluids (including the high pressure oil rails) the general consensus is that it takes about 100 miles to work the air out. That’s a rough guesstimate as it could be more or less depending on how “spirited” you drive it. Even though mine was running pretty good after 100 miles or so it took a couple hundred more until everything”leveled out” (starting, idling, running under various road conditions).
I worried about every little thing and drove myself crazy. IMO give everything 200-300 miles to settle down (as long as the truck is running okay) before you start freaking out. It would have saved me lot of worrying.
Is the smoke constant? What do you mean by “worse”? Is the SES light on? I hate to hazard a guess since I don’t know what you replaced.
A lot of things get disconnected. At this point the only thing I would recommend would be to go back through and check all your connections.
I replaced the o rings on the injectors and the injector cups. After driving for about 100 miles I knew something wasnt right. Yesterday I went back in and removed the cover and found out that one of the bolts that hold the lifters in had broke off and the other backed it self out. After several hours of removing the broken bolt and reinstalling everything back the truck is running better than ever before. Love my 7.3! Thanks for your help
