Battery cable for Dual Alternator is not available

I need a new positive cable for my 2000 F 359 dually with dual alternators. I have called /checked online for the part and nobody has it. I called local Ford dealer and they said it was discontinued, but they did give me a part number (yc3z14300db). Just wondering if I could use one for a single ALT and just adapt it. I was going to make one, but one positive terminal connection has 3 cables and the other connections are unique also.

You're better off making your own in my opinion. Go to a welding shop or tractor supply or somewhere and buy the different gauges of welding cable you need. You can likely get the ends there as well, or at the auto parts store.

Putting 3 cables into one isn't hard either. Either get an end that all 3 will fit into, or use the old fashioned generic battery cable end that uses 2 screws to clamp down on the main cable. Get some hammer on/crimp on/solder on ends for the smaller wires that have an eye on the end and use the 2 screws to attach the additional cables to the battery connector.

Check here;https://fastoemparts.com/parts/1999/...&siteid=214455

If THEY end up not having it I would suggest checking some of the obsolete Ford parts suppliers....

Here's a link to DEKA's wire, cable and connector catalog, they have a lot of stuff including battery isolators that might be of interest to other people. I am not finding pricing so you might have to find a distributor close to you to get the stuff for you. They do have our standard positive cable but not one for two alternators that I know of. They have a shop there and can make all kinds of stuff so you could give them a call and see if they can make you one. You can certainly get enough parts and make it yourself.

Just FYI... welding cable not recommended on diesels... the fuel plays havoc with the insulation...

i purchsed sgx cable when I redid all my cables... more expensive but nice and thick insulation

Thanks

I did make my own, just resused the same cable that goes to the solenoid. I used 2/0 cable and solder connection I got from Crimp Supply. The cable is rated for battery and welding cable, so I double wrapped the section that will get oily with 2 layers of that plastic anti-chafing stuff. Then the place that sells refurbished Optima Batteries only had the ones for the big rigs, so I have 2 big rig batteries installed. FYI, only the older style big rig batteries fit, the new Ones got taller. Refurbished small Optimas go for 60 bucks and have a 6 month warranty, but the big rig ones are 75 bucks and have a 1 year warranty

Reps to Stebs for using sgX battery cable insulation. The X means cross linked polyethylene, which offers higher thermal stability from heat generated within the cable, as well as exposure to heat sources outside the cable.

If making battery cables from scratch, Ford and all other OEMs use and recommend wire insulation that has an X in the designation if the wires are to be run in an underhood or under chassis environment near heat sources.

The wire jacketing is every bit as important as the wire itself.

Done deal

Big optima does fit, but the new style will not
It really cranks good now. I like the solder type connections since I had to redo one.

You can also get threaded ones. Dad got me these at napa but you can get them online form others. You cut the insulation off the end of the cable and push it in the nut. As you tighten up the nut it crushes down on the cable. You need to use the correct size.

I went the cheap route when I replaced my connectors. I used a marine cable end (has a wing nut on the end and is available at most walmart or auto parts stores). Then just crimped an eyelet for a welding cable on the battery cable and clamped them both down on the post.
