Looking at a couple used trucks - a 2012 F-250 XL FX4 and a 2011 F-350 Lariat - for a tow vehicle for our travel trailer. Same engine and gears, similar mileage (100k vs. 120k), same price. Looking at the CarFax reports listed by the dealer, the 2012 has spent most of its time down in New Mexico and Utah... and the 2011 was brought down from British Columbia. I've seen some references to a lot of trucks getting shipped down here after getting run hard up there on roads with a *lot* of salt on them, and rust on the frame / under body being a serious concern.
Anyone here have that experience with trucks from north of the border? Both trucks are really nice looking in the pics; the Lariat obviously has a few more 'creature comforts' for long road trips while on vacation. Just don't want it falling apart around me - I've had to deal with that (almost literally) with a truck back in Connecticut - so I may be a little overly sensitive about it.
If the engine is 6.7 i would take the 2012. Seems there were a few problems with the 2011 valves. If thats the engine I would a little research first. Don’t know anything about rust here in South Alabama
I have owned some Northern "rust belt" crown Vic police interceptors... They were cheap transportation ...but had tons of rust.. and part replacement becomes an issue... I have literally had to beat the brakes off these cars with sledgehammer... Front hub replacement is a PITA...I would pass on a 100k plus rust belt vehicle
