Anyone done the SYNC 1 to SYNC 3 upgrade?

I've got the small SYNC 1 screen AND have the backup camera and the 3rd brake light camera. I haven't found an aftermarket solution that would allow me to retain the 3rd brake light camera option with their dash kits PAC Audio for Example, so I can use an aftermarket radio.

I've contemplated upgrading the radio to the factory Ford SYNC 3 w/out Navigation. Its pricey but retains all factory options. 4D Tech offers a turn key package.

Has anyone done this upgrade that could offer feedback on your experience and if it was worth it? OR If anyone has ran across an aftermarket solution that retains both cameras?

Have you done it? I'm interested but the price seems steep for what you get. Also I'm concerned if it will be a 100% seamless conversion.

I did the swap on a f150 with parts from LKQ and Ford. It was about 650.00 all said and done. You will need to adjust the a built settings and program the ACM and APIM with a similar truck. It's a quick install too!

Can you share more details on the swap? What parts did you get? For the as built settings and ACM APIM stuff, did you do it all by Forscan? I searched the forum and did not see anybody else posted a successful upgrade.

In addition to all that, you will need to fabricate a harness, or buy one of these:

So if I understand correctly, I just need to get the following 3 parts, correct? Do you have part numbers for the bezel?

1. 8" screen (from LKQ or Ford)
2. Bezel that fits the 8" screen (from Ford)
3. The 4dtech harness (I assume this harness will allow plug and play)

I am interested in this swap. Can you please list all the parts needed. Please also share the built settings you have changed.

Thanks in advance!

All the parts that are needed for the swap are on the 4DTech website but you can also find these parts for a bit less from other vendors.

4dTech offers the APIM already programmed so you won’t have to deal with FORScan.

To save some money, you can skip the OEM navigation and just use your cell phone if you have unlimited data.

One more thing you’ll need is a new dash kit for the factory 8 inch screen and you can find this for a good price at SonicElectronix.com.

Just to clarify this cause I’m also trying to do a similar swap. I did a 2013 F250 Sync 2 to Sync 3 swap so I’m familiar with the reprogram and such. I am planning on buying a 2012 Harley Davidson F150 which only had Sync 1 (No MyFord Touch) so will I be able to do the same upgrade with that truck?

Thanks!

I did the 4 to 8in swap with the 4d tech harness. The biggest problem was finding the correct bezel the f150 bezels are much easier to find but none of them match an xlt like mine with a heated mirror button so I bought an f150 bezel and swapped the hvac buttons but you have to be very careful it’s easy to screw them up

i did not do any reprogramming it all works except when using car play the phone calls pop up and you answer it but no sound comes through I’d like to get to the bottom of it as it’s very annoying. Also it came with the hvac controls on the screen because it was from a lariat only some of the functions work

for those of you with a 2018 super duty the aipm is not plug and play based on documented 2018 f150 conversions it’s plug and play you don’t need a harness but on the 2018 super duty the wiring is like a 2017 f150 requiring a conversion harness
