2002 F250 Crew 2wd - Death Wobble

Recently I have been experiencing death wobble in my truck. has anyone experienced this with a 2wd truck? I thought this would be more of a 4wd issue. Looking for what is needed to fix it. I was thinking it was bad shocks, now Im thinking tie rods.

Looking for guidance before I start pulling the front end apart.

Thanks

rob

check for play in ball joints and tie rods (inner and outer) I got the death wobble when my ball joints went out.

first thing I would check is the slide pins on your brakes. If one side is sticking a little it will cause the wobble.

Do you need a steering stabilizer?

That's my vote too. Mine would start the wobble at about 60mph and it was horrible. Stabilizer fixed it!

A stabilizer might stop it, but first check your ball joints, tie rod ends, bushings, pitman arm, steering box mounting, etc. Putting in a stabilizer may mask a bigger problem. Don't know if any of the F250s were offered with a solid axle, if so check the track bar bushings & bolts. #1 cause for wobble on many vehicles is the track bar.

If you can't find anything that's loose have someone wiggle the steering wheel back & forth while you look at stuff and see what's loose.

I'd guess ball joints first, tie rods second, but also will throw out there to check your tires / rims. I warped a rim on my 02 and made it out of round. I ran centramatics so I never noticed it, but when I got new tires the tire guy came and got me and said he couldn't balance the tire. Showed it to me on the machine and it was wobbling all over the place. Said he spun the tire 3 times and even changed tires to try and minimize it and couldn't.
